My journey with the oboe began in the small town of Peshtigo, Wisconsin. Growing up in a rural community, I learned early on that passion and perseverance are just as important as having the right resources. That "small-town start" shaped my perspective as an educator and remains the driving force behind everything I do today.

My career is built on the belief that world-class musical training and accessible music education should go hand-in-hand. I hold a degree in Music Education from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, where I first honed my skills as a band director. Those years in front of a full ensemble taught me exactly what educators need: practical, "in-the-trenches" solutions for the double reed section.

I am currently finishing my Doctor of Musical Arts in Oboe Performance (with a minor in Arts Administration) at Louisiana State University. My doctoral research specifically focuses on creating double reed resources for band directors in rural areas, a project that eventually grew into the mission of this very website.

Today, I am honored to serve as the Oboe Instructor at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). In this role, I get to work with incredible students in the vibrant "Sun City," helping them find their unique voices on the instrument. Beyond the university, I am an active performer of chamber and new music, a frequent presenter at conferences like the International Double Reed Society (IDRS), and a dedicated advocate for making the oboe less intimidating for everyone.

I founded Musical Ducklings because I believe that no student or teacher should feel "out of their depth" when it comes to the oboe. We provide the tools, scripts, and checklists that bridge the gap between rural classrooms and professional studios.

When I’m not reed-making or teaching, you can usually find me hunting for the perfect iced cortado, hanging out with my husband Rob (a talented composer!), or relaxing at home with our dog and our two cats—including our very vocal supervisor, Gustav.
